Chrysler is doing its part to increase driver safety and convenience with a new hard-drive based automobile entertainment and navigation system called MyGIG™.
MyGIG™ includes much of what one might hope for in a dream world version of a car stereo. It has a 165mm diagonal colour touch screen, auxillary jack fo conecting a portable player, a DVD player, hands-free calling, and a front panel USB connector for connecting a flash drive. It will rip CDs, automatically adding title information from an integrated version of Gracenote. The screen can display photos and has video playback functionality. For the directionall challenged, MyGIG™ includes a navigation system and an updateable map database.
The most notable aspect og MyGIG™ is not its abundant capabilities, but the fact that its release likely heralds a new era regarding what customers expect out of their once-lowly car stereos. MyGIG™ raises the bar with a new level of functionality. Here's what's included:
An AM/FM radio. A CD/DVD player. It plays DVDs on the back seat's optional display or on the front-seat LCD. A 20GB hard drive. The drive is ruggedized for automotive use. A USB jack. You use it for transferring music from flash disks. Also, a line-in jack for playing music off portable players. Two audio outputs. One goes to the car's speakers, the second to the rear-seat headphones if buyers opt for the console mounted rear-seat LCD display. Bluetooth hands-free U-Connect calling. A 165mm TFT touch LCD screen.
